Breeders Cup Betting - Can Zenyatta wrap up her amazing career Undefeated?

Unbeaten two-time champion and older female Zenyatta continued her careful preparations toward a start in the $5-million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) on November 6 at Churchill Downs with an intense seven-furlong workout on Friday afternoon at Hollywood Park.

With longtime jockey Mike Smith at the reigns, the six-year-old Street Cry mare breezed through seven furlongs on the synthetic Cushion Track surface at a 1:27.20 clip handily. Zenyatta worked out with Sorbonne in the beginning of her workout and then with her usual workout partner El Vino for the second half of her day.

“The objective today was to not have her pass anyone,” trainer John Shirreffs said of Zenyatta. “We wanted to keep her focused throughout the entire work because she tends to slack off when she gets by another horse. We wanted her to have a fresh with her the whole time. It went pretty much as we had planned.”

Hollywood timer Russ Hudak captured fractional times of 38.80 through three furlongs, 50.80 through a half-mile, and 1:03.20 through five furlongs, and 1:15.20 through three-quarters of a mile for the unbeaten Zenyatta. The workout was her second since she posted her 19th win in as many career starts on October 2 in the Lady’s Secret Stakes (G1).

“We wanted 1:27 and we got 1:27.20,” Smith said. “One second off seems pretty good to me.”

Zenyatta is scheduled to work again on October 30 before shipping to Churchill Downs on November 2. For this long unbeaten legend the Classic is expected to be her final career start.
